Description
Fine checks keep this bedding familiar, while deep contrasting ruffles give it a little more character. Choose oatmeal checks edged in cocoa or a cooler slate palette finished with dark blue. The gently crinkled cotton double gauze softens both designs, making the bed feel relaxed rather than overly dressed, with just enough detail to enjoy against a simple headboard.
Warm wood brings out the softer side of the cocoa trim; ivory and muted blue work well with the slate version. Keep extra cushions plain so the gathered edges remain easy to see. A lightly rumpled finish suits the gauze and the informal checked pattern.
- Cotton double gauze: Pure cotton in a softly crinkled double-gauze construction.
- Fine checks: Two muted checked palettes offer a choice of warm or cool tones.
- Contrasting ruffles: Dark gathered edges frame the duvet and matching pillowcases.
- Room pairing: Plain cushions and simple wood furniture balance the detailed trim.

Strong beside dark furniture
It suits our pale wood bed, though beside dark furniture the slate ruffle looks quite strong.
One ruffle puckers slightly
The checks and the ruffle stitching are both neat, though one ruffle puckers slightly at the corner.
Smoothing at the corners
The insert threads through simply, though the gauze needs a little smoothing at the corners.
True to size
Our usual size proved right for the cover and the shams, with no slack at the foot of the bed.
Held up in the wash
After the first wash the checks stayed neat, though the gauze creases more than it did when new.
A relaxed checked gauze with contrasting ruffles that suits a simple headboard.
Warm wood suits it
Warm wood brings out the oatmeal, and plain linen cushions let the ruffles stay the detail.
Gifted one, bought one
Having given one set away, I bought another for us, though the second was a shade paler.
Used all year round
The same gauze cover has lasted the year with us, cool in summer and warmer in winter.
Needs a thin cover in summer
It covers most seasons, though the warmest weeks called for a much thinner cover.
The soft ruffles and gentle checks make the bed feel calm each evening.
Relaxed and modern
The whole bed looks relaxed and modern, and the checks are softer in person than online.
Gauze creases easily
It fits the mattress well, though the gauze creases more than a plain cotton cover does.
She picked oat and cocoa
My cousin asked for the link after staying over, and she picked the oatmeal and cocoa pairing.
Ruffle shows up close
From a distance the bed reads as a soft neutral check, and the cocoa ruffle only shows up close.
Flat once it is made
With the quilt in, the cover lies flat and the contrast edging hangs straight down the sides.
Spring and summer
A thin quilt takes it through spring and summer, and it lasts into the milder autumn too.
She wanted the slate option
A friend asked for the link after staying over, though she wanted the cooler slate option.
One plain throw only
One plain throw across the foot is enough, since the ruffles already carry the contrast.
Insert drifts a little
The insert holds at the ties, though our light quilt drifts toward the foot overnight.
Softer and far more relaxed than the stiff checked set it replaced.
One fold from packing
A light packing crease showed at first, and the gauze smoothed out within a few days.
Crinkled gauze, fine checks, contrast ruffles.
