Bought the red as well
After a season with the classic black I ordered the berry red too, and the warmer tone suits our second bedroom better.
Winsley Gingham Lace Cotton Bedding Set

Description
Small gingham checks and a broad white lace border give Winsley a gently decorative look. Classic Black brings a crisp contrast, while Berry Red adds warmth. Matching piping traces the edges of the cotton duvet and pillowcases, framing the checks with a fine line of colour.
Pair the checked bedding with plain walls and simple bedside pieces to keep the lace detail in focus. The scalloped trim softens the grid of the gingham, giving the bed a dressed finish without a large-scale print.
- Cotton fabric: Pure cotton bedding with a softly folded drape.
- Gingham checks: Small checks come in Classic Black or Berry Red.
- White lace trim: A broad scalloped border adds embroidered eyelet detail.
- Matching piping: Fine coloured edging frames the duvet and pillowcases.

Piping runs evenly
The coloured piping traces the edges of the duvet and the pillows neatly, though on one pillowcase it dips slightly at the corner.
Good in the morning and evening
In the morning the checks look crisp in daylight, and in the evening with the lamp on the lace border softens the whole look.
Sizing matched the guide
I ordered by the size guide and the cover fitted our bed as the measurements suggested, with the pillows well covered by the shams.
Keep the throw plain
A plain white throw at the foot suits the lace border, though a patterned throw competes with the checks and looks crowded.
Comfortable in most weather
It has been comfortable from spring through to autumn, and with a heavier insert underneath in winter it still works on the bed.
Fine on a standard bed
It fits our standard double neatly, though on the guest bed with a topper the fitted sheet pulls slightly at two corners.
Soft cotton with a crisp check
The cotton feels soft and light against the skin, and the checks sit crisply on the fabric without any stiffness at the folds.
The broad lace border is what lifts a plain checked bed.
The gingham is smaller and the lace finer than on the set it replaced.
Partner likes it, wants the red
My partner likes the checks and the lace edge, though he would rather we had chosen the berry red than the classic black.
The lace border makes the morning feel a little more dressed than usual.
